In just a few years, Tarisio has earned the respect of musicians, collectors, restorers and dealers the world over. With first class expertise and guaranteed cataloging, Tarisio has established a reputation as one of the world's finest sources of fine and rare stringed instruments.
Started in 1999 by three partners, Dmitry Gindin, Jason Price, and Christopher Reuning, Tarisio quickly became the United States' largest auction house for stringed instruments. Each year Tarisio sells over 1,500 violins, violas, cellos and bows. By combining the guarantee and services of a traditional auction house with the efficiency and accessibility of an Internet auction, Tarisio offers its clients a unique venue for buying and selling investment quality instruments. Tarisio hosts four auctions per year. The Autumn and Spring sales are typically large (400+ lots) and feature instruments and bows of all price ranges. The February and July sales feature instruments of lower price ranges. For each sale, there is at least one exhibition viewing where musicians, dealers, and collectors can examine and try all items in the auction. After the viewings all items are sold to the highest bidder at a public Internet auction which lasts approximately two weeks. In the months preceding each sale Tarisio acquires and catalogs consignments from musicians, estates, collectors, dealers, and institutions. One month before the sale, Tarisio publishes a catalog of the sale on the Internet including detailed photographs and descriptions of each item. For the May and October auctions Tarisio publishes a large printed catalog with full color photographs of many lots.
