About Tarisio

Tarisio is an internet-based auction house dedicated to fine stringed instruments and bows. Founded in 1999 on the promise of high-quality expertise combined with the efficiency of internet bidding, the firm created an accessible way for players, collectors and members of the trade to buy fine instruments, and it quickly expanded. With offices in New York and London, it now holds up to eight auctions per year and also offers private sales.

Why buy with Tarisio?

Flexible online bidding

Tarisio is the only major company in the instrument market that uses the internet for its auctions. This allows buyers to bid anonymously from the comfort of their own homes, rather than having to make snap decisions in a crowded auction room. Each sale is preceded by at least one public viewing, enabling potential buyers to examine and try the lots before bidding. Condition reports are available on request.

Authenticity guaranteed

Tarisio’s cataloging is the most reliable in the business, and it is the only auction house to extend a guarantee of authenticity to every item cataloged by a particular maker.

Low premiums

Tarisio’s premiums are the lowest in the business: 20% up to $200,000 and 12% thereafter.

Items to suit every budget

Each sale includes a range of items, from good student instruments and bows to fine examples by the greatest makers. There are also frequent auctions of speculative items in need of restoration.

High level of customer service

Tarisio prides itself on offering an efficient, friendly and approachable service, whatever the value of the item purchased.

Why sell with Tarisio?

Speed and security

With 85% of lots sold on average at each auction, selling through Tarisio is a fast and efficient process, avoiding the often lengthy consignment terms and eventual negotiations of private sales. Most items at Tarisio have an agreed and confidential reserve price, below which they will not be sold, and once the bidding reaches the reserve price, the buyer is contractually bound to purchase the lot.

Publicity

Vendors have the advantage of Tarisio’s marketing campaigns for each sale, which include adverts in international media, and a range of emails and flyers sent out to an international database of over 30,000 clients.

Low premiums

Tarisio’s premiums are the lowest in the business: 9% of the first $7,000, 2.5% between $7,000 and $50,000, and 0% thereafter.
